Roland Clan Forums > Fantom-G > Live Mode with External Midi -- something's weird(?)

Hello all,
I am trying to set up my new Fantom-G for use at gigs, Im using Live mode where the Fantom is my main controller and I have it connected to a Kurzweil PC3. I do a lot of sound splitting and layering, and Im getting some really strange results that dont seem right.

It seems that, in Live mode:

- If I shut the keyboard switch off for all internal and external parts, and move the cursor to the top (so there is no "current part"), the Fantom is still generating sound. It seems to be playing whatever is on Midi channel 1 (with no regard for any ranges that may be set), but I have examples where it's playing

- When the External channel 1 is enabled, some of the internal sounds seem to be receiving the "note on" commands, whether or not the internal sounds have their keyboard switches off (plus it ignores any ranges that are set up).

What I want to be able to do is assign all of the typical layering and zones within the Live setup, and also have a program change sent to the PC3X , and in some cases send Note data to the PC3x when I play the Fantom as well. My thought is that the "External on" switch would determine if the Program Change is sent to the PC3x, and the range set on that external channel would determine if note data is sent there. But I definitely wouldnt expect the External tracks to send data to internal voices. By the way, the PC3x seems to be behaving as expected, my only issue is in how the Fantom Internal voices are responding to the external channel.

Im sure Im just doing something wrong here... Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have the same problems with external gear. I tried different things and could not get it to work properly. (I am certainly not a midi newbie).

At the end I gave up. I quit twith he FG as the main controller of my live setup. It's still there (I love the sounds) but now my Motif is controlling my rack.

I hope there will be some answers as I am very curious how it can be done.

All, you can disregard this, I found my solution... I had my PC3 and Fantom connected to eachother in a loop, i.e.
Fantom Midi in ---> PC3x Midi Out
and
(Fantom Midi Out ---> PC3x Midi In

and it turned out that my PC3X was actually feeding the midi data it was receiving *from* the Fantom back to the Fantom. As far as I know, its not supposed to do that, at least i've done this Midi loop through many keyboard upgrades and never had an issue like that ...

But anyway, just wanted to get this up here in case anyone ever has this issue again.
