I'm thinking about getting a Yamaha P85 (or similarly priced DP) to give me 88 weighted keys on my G7 through midi. In the case of the P85, it only has 64-note polyphony, but I'm assuming that when used through midi, this doesn't matter. It would be the G7 that controls how much polyphony I get, right?

Thanks

Yes, the G would define the polyphony, so you'll get 128 voices.

before buying, i would try the combination in a store. i'm using a yamaha p80 with a sonic-cell and had quite some trouble. i couldn't achieve a good match of the yamahas velocity sensitivity and the sonic cell. in the end, i'm now using a diy device, translating the velocity.
maybe this only applies to the old P80, but i would make sure, it works fine :)

Might be hard to try first, but I do plan to buy locally, so a return would be feasible. I appreciate the feedback.
