Looking forward to hearing your review. Although, the Oasys was a game-changing synth- and it is now discontinued as it was really priced out of reach of the majority of musicians. I fear this is also priced out of reach. It might sell a few thousand but for the price- wow- I wish them luck (at least you won't expect updates like Oasys owners did).

i got the V-Piano today. came in 2 large boxes on a wooden pallet. had to have the truck driver unload into my garage first.

I then setup the stand in my music room, then had the wife help me carry the V-Piano though the front of the house. it's about 45kg of clumsy large brown box. it was actually 5kg+ heavier than my G8 which i carried on my own a few times which wasn't too fun.

have to say the packaging is artistry itself. very high quality cardboard used, thick poly sheets, very well designed cells for the individual bits. same goes for the V-Piano's packaging.

the setup took me no more than 30min or so with the help of my wife. the V-Piano is actually bolted down to the stand which is a nice touch. pedal box is wood, very nice touch there as well.

you just have to then get some cold beverage and admire the V-Piano for a while before you sit down and play.

im using a Yamaha DS840 throne as my bench. not a fan of piano benches actually and since the V-Piano's stand is more modern i thought a throne would be a nice match. and it is (well, for me).

the monitors im using is a Yamaha HS50M which is the smaller version of the HS80M i use on my synth setup. it has plenty of power. i played around with the V-Piano's 4band parametric EQ to rid some of the annoying room modes i have and walla. i just kept playing and playing and playing and playing.. hahaha.

i luv it. it's a nice unit. beautifully made. will play with the EQ's a tad more to get it perfected with the room acoustics. :) for headphones im running a sony MDR7506.

that's it for now. more later.

I'm really sorry, I have wrongly clicked the DELETE button instead of REPLY.

here is kenchan last post

Thanks, SL. yes, definitely a fun instrument. after playing with it for many hours last night and this morning, my initial thought is that the v-piano is not an eletric/digital piano at all.

it's a completely unique instrument all on its own. :)

i think my edited NY Grand on my G8 sounds more like a standard so called "piano" than the v-piano, if it makes any sense. The V-Piano is a completely separate variant of a piano... say between an upright or grand, babygrand, etc.

...All because I was going to ask you to start a new thread about your new V-Piano. I don't think a thread called "I don't get this V-Piano" is the best place to talk about it. After all you did GET a V-Piano ;-)

hi,

since I've started this thread based on the demos I've seen from Roland, think is only fair to post my opinion after playing the V piano on couple of occasions, for a long time, and having it compared side by side with some accoustic pianos from Kawai and Yamaha.

1. It is the best electric piano I've ever played, congrats to Roland for putting this together, is an outstanding instrument.
2. Action is very very good, in a different class than the G or 700 series
3. Soundwise, as I said, it is marevelous for an electric piano, if supported by the right equipment. Couldn't ask for much more of it.
4. There is no copmarison in my opinion between the V and an acoustic grand, even baby grand.
5. All the tuning of the hammer action and the like is ok, but as a pianist, don't think there will be many people really taking advantage of that... just my opinion

So that's about it for the instrument, however, there is a small issue with the price :)
The V piano retails here for about 7000$. A superb Kawai concert piano starts at about 11000$.
Now the V is an electric insturment, hugely expensive, and its value will decrease the moment one buys it - this is a fact. Actually, Roland might very well issue upgraded versions in the next years, decreasing its value even more.
The Kawai that retails at 11,000 keeps its value for at least 10 years, with full price refund for future upgrades - that means one doesn't lose any money on the unit.

Bottom line, although is an extraordinary instrument, financially don't think it makes sense to "get" the V. Of course there is a market for it, but will just have to see how many people actualy buy it.
If it was priced at 4000$ it would be a different story

congrats to all who own it, it is a beautiful instrument

hey profu- you bring valid points but to fully validate your points you should change the title to 'wish someone would buy me this VPiano.'

"Have to say by watching the videos here and on youtube (by the way, good job Roland, the videos are very good and sell the product qualities well), am still very confused as to who this product actually targets."

The demographic is people who have lots of expendable cash and like to amuse themselves with really cool gear. Is that so hard to understand? I'm an Electrohead with a SH-201 and a Virus TI so I'm a little biased but I banged away on one at the music store and to me it sounded pretty good with all those virtual nuaces and crap. I'd prefer one of these over a real piano cause real pianos need constant tuning and maintainence etc...

yes, 4grant is different story...I'm just wondering if this could be done in $500 as an ARX card. May not have the same feel but what the hell, the sound, tuning, and maybe some function to the touch sensitive may be able to be achieved. This VP-ARX which may spell out (increase sales for Roland) and will be a plus for FG sales too..
Just all opinion not facts so- no need get smiley and tuned up on this. :))) oops!

doubt it for 500, but it would be nice to have something similar to the VP on the G8. G7/G6 youll run into problems anyway with its flimsy keyboard.

i know cause my G7 is a direct duplicate of my G8 even to the ARX03's
and it is impossible to play piano on the G7 like on the G8.
