crackling noise on my Fantom X8

Guys - when i turn the volume up and down on my Fantom X8, there is a crackling noise, it happens on headphones and when you hear it through speakers, mixer etc
how do i fix it?

from days of old playing in live bands we used to have clean the mixing desk pots when they got noisy by spraying them with an electrical contact spray.
Maybe it is just a dirty pot and a bit of contact spray will help.

Typically it is best to spray directly into a hole in the pot cover. If you remove the volume knob, you can't see much beyond the shaft and a nut. You might try some cleaner on the shaft to see if it will work its way inside. I haven't tried this. Has anyone else?
